State Requirements

Because quality of life isn't conducive to living on top of a landfill, under an overpass, or next door to a factory, laws and regulations are in place that impact what you and others can do with the land.

In this course, we’ll look at those laws and regulations, what they mean to the environment, and how land use planning occurs at the local level. Along the way, we’ll see just how much Big Brother or Big Sister has to say about property owner rights.

Governmental police powers, such as eminent domain, escheat, and taxation
Public land use controls including zoning, subdivision regulations, building codes and city certifications, and the Interstate Land Sales Full Disclosure Act
Private land use controls including deed restrictions and CC&Rs

Renewal Date: Every three years from date of issuance

Hours Required: 18 hours

6 hours – Legal Update (2 hours per year of the license cycle)
3 hours – Fair Housing (1 hour per year of the license cycle)
9 hours – Elective (can be completed at any time during the license cycle)

Final Exam: Final exams must be passed with at least a 75% and may be taken as many times as necessary in order to pass.

Seat Time: It is required that all students spend a minimum amount of seat time engaged in the course content. Our online course delivery system manages this requirement for you.
